At least 100 kg of stimulant drugs have been seized from a China-registered ship off the coast of Fukuoka Prefecture, police and coast guard sources said Monday.
The sources said the Japan Coast Guard and the Fukuoka Prefectural Police confiscated the drugs last week.
Authorities are holding several crew members, believed to be Chinese, and have towed the ship to Hakata port in Fukuoka, the sources said. Coast guard patrol vessels are keeping watch over the port.
