Nagasaki Gov. Genjiro Kaneko said Wednesday he intends to agree to the government's plan to halve the amount of land involved in the Isahaya Bay reclamation project.

Kaneko spoke favorably about the project at the day's plenary session of the prefectural assembly.

The Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Ministry proposed in late October giving up the plan to drain an additional 700 hectares of land, while continuing with plans to turn into farmland 700 hectares that have already been reclaimed.

The project has been suspended since February due to poor seaweed harvests in the area, which fisherman say is a result of the reclamation.
