Japanese and North Korean officials met early this month in Beijing to explore ways to resume stalled bilateral talks on normalizing ties, a source familiar with the bilateral relationship said.

“The contents of the meeting and other details are not known,” the source said Friday. “But they apparently exchanged opinions on issues pertaining to the resumption of the suspended normalization talks and food assistance.”
