Hiroshima Mayor Tadatoshi Akiba and Nagasaki Mayor Itcho Ito urged the central government this week to formulate support measures for atomic bomb victims living overseas.

The mayors issued their entreaties Tuesday to a welfare ministry panel tackling support measures for atomic bomb victims living overseas and the issue of revising the Atomic Bomb Victims Relief Law.

"Understanding of the aftereffects of the atomic bombing is insufficient overseas and there are few specialists on radiation therapy," said Akiba.
