SASEBO, Nagasaki Pref. – The Self-Defense Forces launched a two-day drill Friday here to practice the evacuation of overseas Japanese threatened by foreign conflict or political turmoil.
About 1,300 members of the Ground Self-Defense Force and the Maritime Self-Defense Force, five warships and six helicopters took part in the exercise under an amendment to the SDF Law made in May 1999.
