Police arrested a Japanese man and three Chinese men Friday night on suspicion of stealing cash, promissory notes worth a total of 51 million yen and a laptop computer from a company in Toyohashi, Aichi Prefecture, earlier in the day.

Mikio Hayashi, 32, from Chiba Prefecture, was arrested together with the three Chinese nationals in Gifu, police said.

The four are suspected of breaking into an office of an iron welding firm early Friday and stealing 130,000 yen in cash and 32 promissory notes from a safe and the computer, police said.

A hotel the four were staying at in Gifu alerted police Friday afternoon, and the promissory notes and computer believed to be those stolen from the company were found in their car, police said, adding that the four admitted to the charges against them.

Police suspect the men are also implicated in a separate robbery resulting in injuries at a building material sales company in Gifu early Friday and are questioning them.
