The Tokyo District Public Prosecutor's Office arrested one of its employees on Wednesday for defrauding one of his former colleagues of 5 million yen, the office said. Arrested on suspicion of fraud was Masayuki Iwasaki, 44, of Koganei, Tokyo. He is a senior clerk in the supplies section of the office. According to investigators, Iwasaki persuaded a former Justice Ministry employee in June 1998 to invest 5 million yen in a bogus publishing project, which, he had said, could bring substantial profits. The 59-year-old woman retired from the Justice Ministry in May 1998. She filed a complaint with the prosecutor's office against Iwasaki earlier this month, the office said.
