Breath of the Wild 2 is out.

Set for release in May 2023, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is in.

Of all the blockbuster announcements from Nintendo’s long-awaited Direct livestream, there was a reason the “House of N” saved its update on what’s become of Hyrule for the headline spot in its 45-minute presentation. Much like a band saves its mega-hit for the encore, Nintendo strung its audience along for 43 painstaking minutes before rolling footage on Tears of the Kingdom, the sequel to 2017’s Breath of the Wild, a landmark development in both the 40-year-old Zelda series and open-world games as a genre.
