Instant messenger Line has been a popular target with fraudsters in recent months, with users being asked to buy prepaid cards in messages from friends whose smartphones have been hacked. In August, Line users have been hit by a new type of fraud (sagi, 詐欺) in which swindlers ask for ¥100,000 to cover hospital costs incurred as a result of an accident.
