The Hotel Okura Tokyo will hold its fourth annual Hotel Okura Live Index event on Dec. 24.

Held since 2007 and supported by Blue Note Tokyo, the event invites Japanese and foreign musicians to perform on the hotel’s premises. This year, the Count Basie Orchestra, one of the most prominent big bands in the world, will offer jazz standards for the special night, with Carmen Bradford as the guest vocalist.

The Count Basie Orchestra was formed by late American master musician William Count Basie (1904-1984) and is celebrating its 75th anniversary this year. The band has been inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in the United States and has won 17 Grammy Awards.

The event costs ¥25,000 per person and comes with a Christmas Eve dinner at the Chinese Table Starlight, the Terrace Restaurant or Dining Cafe Camellia, between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. The performance starts at 7:30 p.m. in Ascot Hall on the second basement level (B2F) of the South Wing building.

Sake with dishes to match at Keio

The Keio Plaza Hotel Tokyo will hold a special dinner event Nov. 7-8, featuring the Oyatakashi Brewery from Kanagawa Prefecture.

The brewery, established in 1830, is near Atsugi. In rich natural surroundings amid mountains and farms, the brewery produces the popular sake Horai.

The dinner event invites the family brewery’s eighth successor, Shunsuke Oya, to tell his stories about making sake. Meanwhile, dishes specially created to match the flavor of Horai are provided by the hotel’s Japanese restaurant, Kagari, and its chef, Katsumi Kaneko.

The dinner will be held in a private room in Kagari from6:30 p.m., and costs ¥10,000, including sake.

Sake and dinner events, led by the sommelier of the hotel’s sake bar, Amanogawa, have been held regularly throughout the year, bringing to the hotel quality junmai sake and sake makers from around the nation.

Bubbly dining at Fukuoka Hyatt

The Grand Hyatt Fukuoka will hold a special dinner event featuring Dom Perignon Champagne on Nov. 16 at the hotel’s first-floor restaurant, Aroma’s.

A special set menu will be presented by guest celebrity chef Pascal Tingaud from Dom Perignon to accompany three of the brand’s prestigious Champagnes: Dom Perignon Vintage 2002 Warhol Tribute, Dom Perignon Vintage 2000 and Dom Perignon Enotheque Vintage 1995.

Tingaud is chef of the Chateau de Saran estate where both Moet & Chandon and Dom Perignon welcome VIP guests. He is a veteran chef at top hotels and restaurants in Europe, and has also worked for Giscard d’Estaing, the former president of France, at the Elysee Palace.

Also, the Dom Perignon brand ambassador, Vincent Agulhon, will attend to talk about the Champagne.

The dinner, limited to 30 guests, starts at 7 p.m. and costs ¥20,000 per person, which includes four glasses of Champagne, service charge and tax.
