In the city of Hachinohe, Aomori Prefecture, a longstanding tradition is set to be displayed as various groups are put through their paces by way of enburi, centuries-old performing arts that are employed as a way of praying for a bountiful year.
Every day and night from Feb. 17 to 20, entertainers will be seen engaged in colorful dances at a range of venues around the city. The best location, though, is at the square by the city office, where a bonfire will keep spectators warm.
But if that's not enough to keep you toasty, parts of the festival will also take place away from the elements, inside Hachinohe City Public Hall. (Yuki Yamauchi)
