Saitama: Chichibu Yo Matsuri

Night Festival which is counted as one of the three grandest float festivals in Japan, and is designated as one of the National Important Intangible Folk Cultural Properties and registered as the Intangible Cultural Heritage by UNESCO. The highlight of this festival is a parade of six huge, lavishly adorned and lantern-lit floats.

● Dec. 2
from 10 a.m.: Kagura at Chichibu-jinja shrine
11 a.m.-4 p.m. Japanese traditional dance on floats
11 a.m.-8 p.m. Parade of six floats
6 p.m.-8 p.m. Local Kabuki plays on floats
7 p.m.-8 p.m. Fireworks display at Hitsujiyama Park
● Dec. 3
10 a.m.-midnight Parade of six floats in the city
from 10 a.m.: Kagura at Chichibu-jinja shrine
10 a.m.-1 p.m. Japanese traditional dance on floats
11 a.m.-2 p.m. Local Kabuki plays on floats
2:30 p.m.-4 p.m. Parade of local Kabuki actors
4 p.m.-5:30 p.m. Local Kabuki plays in the parking lot of
Yao Department Store
7:30 p.m.- 10 p.m. Fireworks display at Hitsujiyama Park

Access:
(1) JR Takasaki Line to Kumagaya Sta. From there, take Chichibu Tetsudo Line to Chichibu Sta. (2) Seibu Chichibu Line to Seibu-Chichibu Sta.
