Chiba: Sawara-no Taisai Aki Matsuri

Festival with a 300-year history, designated as one of the National Important Intangible Folk Cultural Properties, and registered as the Intangible Cultural Heritage by UNESCO.
14 beautifully sculptured floats with huge dolls on tops parade through the city to the accompaniment of Sawara-bayashi (festival music).

Schedule & Key events:
● Oct. 11  from 10 a.m.: Parade of 14 floats
● Oct. 12  12:50 p.m.-4 p.m. Parade of 14 floats
● Oct. 13   from 9 a.m.: mikoshi proceeds from Otabisho(portable
shrine resting place) to Suwa-jinja Shrine
from 10 a.m.: Parade of 14 floats

Location: Suwa-jinja Shrine and others, Sawara, Katori, Chiba

JR Narita Line to Sawara Sta. (JR Limited Express "Sawara Aki Matsuri-Go" is available from Shinjuku Sta. on 10/12・13.)
