Inspired by the Latin phrase "Ut pictura poesis" ("as is painting, so is poetry") used by the Roman poet Horace in "Ars Poetica" ("The Art of Poetry"), this exhibition explores the theme of literature in the context of contemporary art.
Featuring the work of Keizo Kitajima, Erika Kobayashi, Futoshi Miyagi, Yuichiro Tamura, Yasuko Toyoshima and Chikako Yamashiro, it focuses on expressions of narrative in various media, including photography, video and installations. Highlights include the chromogenic print "My Torch" (2019) by Erika Kobayashi; "Tsilcarl Village Armenia" (1991/2019), a pigment print from the series "USSR 1991" by Keizo Kitajima; and "Square Margin Throwing Star" (2018) a plywood, linseed oil and oil work by Yasuko Toyoshima.
