Saitama: Chichibu Kawase Matsuri

Annual Festival of the shrine. The highlight of this festival is mikoshi-arai, a ritual that mikoshi is carried into Arakawa River.

Schedule & Key events:
● July 19
from 7 p.m.: Rite to build a pillar to welcome Susanoo, Shinto god, at the
shrine
from 8 p.m.: Fireworks display and parade of eight floats in the city
● July 20
 10 a.m.-10 p.m. Parade of eight floats in the city
from 1:30 p.m.: Parade of mikoshi from the shrine to the river
from 2:30 p.m.: mikoshi-arai ritual

Location: Chichibu-jinja Shrine, Arakawa River and others, Chichibu, Saitama


Access:
(1) JR Takasaki Line to Kumagaya Sta. From there, take Chichibu Tetsudo Line to Chichibu Sta., and then walk 3 min. (2) Seibu Chichibu Line to Seibu-Chichibu Sta., and then walk 10 min.
