Fukuoka: Tobata Gion Oyamagasa

Festival of the shrines, designated as one of the National Important Intangible Folk Cultural Properties, and registered as the Intangible Cultural Heritage by UNESCO. It features a parade of Yamagasa (huge magnificence eight floats each shaped like a pyramid decorated with hundreds of lighted lanterns) carried by townspeople through the city daily during the festival period.

Location: Tobihata Hachiman-gu Shrine, Sugawara-jinja Shrine, Nakabaru Hachiman-gu Shrine,, Tobata, Kita-Kyushu, Fukuoka


Access:
Tobata Ward Office : JR Kagoshima Honsen Line to Tobata Sta., and then walk 20 min.
