Chiba: Sawara-no-Taisai Natsu Matsuri

Summer Festival of the shrine, designated as one of the National Important Intangible Folk Cultural Properties, and registered as the Intangible Cultural Heritage by UNESCO. The highlight of this festival is a parade of 10 beautiful floats topped with large-size dolls modeled after historical figures, birds, beasts and others to the tune of festival music on the main streets of the city.

Schedule & Key events:
● daily daytime Folk dance with festival music in Omatsuri Stage
Hiroba
10 a.m.-10 p.m. Parade of floats
● July 13 from 5:30 p.m.: Lanterns on floats are lit up and Soodori folk dancing
is performed around each float
● July 14 from 11 a.m.: Parade of mikoshi from shrine to each town

Location: Yasaka-jinja Shrine and others, Katori, Chiba

JR Narita Line to Sawara Sta., and then walk 10 min.
