Yamagata: Yonezawa Uesugi Matsuri

Festival in commemoration of the famous warlord "Uesugi Kenshin (1530-1578)."

Schedule & Key events:
● May 3
from 9:30 a.m.: Parade of mikoshi of Uesugi-jinja Shrine and floats, through the city's main street
from 10:20 a.m.: Uesugi Gundan Gyoretsu (a parade of about 1,000 Samurai warriors), through the city's main street
from 2 p.m.: Kawanaka-jima Gassen (sham battle) at Matsukawa riverside

Location: Uesugi-jinja Shrine, Matsukawa River and others, Yonezawa, Yamagata


Access:
JR Yamagata Shinkansen Line to Yonezawa Sta., and then walk 10 min.
