Akita: Kariwano-no Otsuna-hiki

Tug of war, featuring a giant straw-rope (80 centimeters in diameter and over 200 meters long). The festival with a 500-year history is held to pray for a rich harvest of this year, and is designated as one of the National Important Intangible Folk Cultural Properties.

Schedule & Key events:
from 7:10 p.m.: Townspeople lay out a straw-rope for a fight
from 9 p.m.: Tug of war is held on Omachi-dori Street

JR Ou Honsen Line to Kariwano Sta., and then walk 5 min.
