Tochigi: Otariya

Festival featuring a performance of Dengaku-mai (Shinto dance with music) and a parade of mikoshi. Otakiage (ceremony of burning old charms to honor them for protecting people throughout the year) is also conducted by priests.

Schedule & Key events:
9 a.m.-7 p.m. Otakiage
5 p.m.-5:30 p.m. Dengaku-mai in the shrine precincts
5:30 p.m.-7 p.m. Parade of mikoshi through the city

Location: Futaarayama-jinja Shrine and others, Utsunomiya, Tochigi


Access:
Futaarayama-jinja Shrine: (1) JR Tohoku Shinkansen Line to Utsunomiya Sta. (West Exit) From there, take bus to Babacho Futaarayama Jinja-mae Bus Stop (5 min.) (2) Tobu Utsunomiya Line to Tobu-Utsunomiya Sta., and then walk 10 min.
