That Initial Realist Spark: When You Were Young

This comprehensive exhibition of contemporary Japanese realist works focuses on Toshiro Aoki, who was greatly inspired by Johannes Vermeer's "View of Delft" (1660-1661); Osamu Obi, whose artistic style changed direction after depicting a Rembrandt portrait; and Kenichiro Ishiguro, who studied art in Madrid, Spain. These three painters' interpretations of famous masterpieces offer insight into the type of artists and works that influenced their decisions to pursue realism.

Profiles of each artist and showcases of their recent works will also be on display. (Yukari Tanaka)
