Yamagata: Yachi Donga Matsuri

Annual Festival of the shrine, featuring bugaku with a 1,100-year history, designated as one of the National Important Intangible Folk Cultural Properties. The highlight of this festival is the performance, in which yakko (retainers) demonstrate their skill of brandishing long spears on the city's main streets.

Schedule & Key events:
● Sept. 16
from 2:30 p.m.: / from 7:50 p.m.: Bugaku performance at the shrine
● Sept. 17
from 12:30 p.m.: Procession of mikoshi following yakko on the main street
from 2:45 p.m.: Bugaku performance at the shrine
● Sept. 18
from 5:10 p.m.: Demonstration by yakko
from 6:50 p.m.: Ohayashi (festival music) and taiko performances on the floats at Donga Hall

JR Yamagata Shinkansen Line to Sakurambo-Higashine Station. From there, take taxi (15 min.)
