Aug. 3-Sept. 29

First held in 2017, the Reborn-Art Festival aims to aid the revival of regions and communities in Miyagi Prefecture that were devastated by the Great East Japan Earthquake and tsunami of 2011.

Using art, music and food to highlight culture and customs distinct to the Tohoku region, it brings together participants from all creative disciplines. This year, Reborn-Art Festival 2019 invites more than 80 groups, artists, musicians and chefs, with works including installations that take into account the history and potential futures of various regions in Miyagi, performances of a "post-rock opera" and food events that explore local cuisine and ingredients.

The festival takes place in seven areas — Ishinomaki Station, urban spaces in the city of Ishinomaki, Momoura Village, Oginohama, Kozumi, Ayukawa and Ajishima — with works created under the theme of "Texture of Life."
