Recycling doesn't have to be unfashionable. In fact, the Tokai Eco Festa in Nagakute, Aichi, places emphasis on the theme of "eco-stye," a continuing trend where fashion combines with environmental awareness. Patrons can visit more than 130 booths that feature clothes, art and handmade items that are not only stylish, but are also made using environmentally friendly materials and processes.

Besides shopping, visitors can attend seminars where they learn about the safest way to properly recycle or reuse old items. They can even visit on-site recycling centers to discard unwanted items. Handmade-goods workshops are also scheduled for people to learn how to make their own eco-friendly goods.

There will also be more than 30 food and refreshment stands on hand that will offer produce specific to the region. Stage events with local artists are set to provide some entertainment on both days, and they will all have some kind of environmental theme to them.

Tokai Eco Fest will take place at Moricoro Park (Aichi Expo Memorial Park) in Nagakute, Aichi Pref., on Sept. 21 and 22 (10 a.m. till 4:30 p.m.). Admission is free, but there is a ¥500 charge for parking. For more information, visit tokaiecofesta.web.co.jp (in Japanese).
