Director: Julia Leigh
This hypnotic fable by Australian author-turned-director Julia Leigh falls between Pauline Reage’s “The Story of O” and Yasunari Kawabata’s “The House of the Sleeping Beauties.” Emily Browning (“Sucker Punch”) plays a college student with a self-destructive streak. She’s recruited by a secretive madam (Rachael Blake), who drugs her and offers her sleeping body to wealthy clients. With its meticulous camera work and a fearless performance from Browning (mostly nude), “Sleeping Beauty” will haunt you despite its deliberately unsatisfying ending. Now showing at Cinemart Shinjuku, then nationwide.
