The Angyo Autumn Grand Bonsai Exhibition & Greenery Festival is reaching out to non-Japanese speakers for its 72nd event.
The biannual showcase is popular among those with green thumbs due to the more than 750 variations of flowers and seeds available to buy. Additionally, locally grown vegetables will be on sale.
Another eye-drawing component is the huge collection of bonsai, miniature potted trees. Fifty selected bonsai, including one in a valuable 300-year-old pot, will be exhibited and demonstrations will be held to teach aspiring horticulturists how to care for the fragile trees.
According to the Saitama Railway Corporation, cosponsor of the event, there will be an emphasis on assisting non-Japanese visitors this year. English-speaking concierges will be on hand, and most of the signs and captions will be translated.
The Angyo Autumn Grand Bonsai Exhibition and Greenery Festival will take place at Ryokka Center in Kawaguchi, Saitama Pref., on Oct. 8-10.
