This summer, the world was swept up in a wave of enthusiasm over the FIFA World Cup. Japan played Cameroon in the first round and scored a victory, but fans here were quick to acknowledge Cameroon's sharp attacks and fighting spirit. Fortunately, that spirit isn't limited to soccer.
This fall, in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the independence and reunification of the African country, the National Ballet of Cameroon will present an energetic and spirited performance in 14 cities throughout Japan from Sept. 11-30.
Cameroon has more than 200 traditional dances. The company will perform both traditional and popular ones, which should be a fun and educational experience for all ages.
The Beat of Africa — a Continent of Hope, the Heartland of Great Humanity will premiere at the Kyoiku Bunka Kaikan in Kawasaki, Kanagawa Prefecture, at 6:30 p.m. on Sept. 11. The tour will then head to the cities of Kanazawa, Sendai, Tokyo, Fukushima, Ibaraki, Aichi, Kobe, Osaka, Kyoto, Ehime, Hiroshima, Fukuoka and Okayama. Admission varies according to venue.
