Director: Peter Webber
A prequel to the Hannibal series, “Hannibal Rising,” tells of the traumatic youth of the famous cannibalistic serial killer. After losing his parents in World War II, a group of starved thugs in Lithuania eat Hannibal’s little sister. Years later, the teenage Hannibal (Gaspard Ulliel) escapes from an orphanage and moves in with his aunt (Gong Li) in Paris, where his vengeance and cannibalistic instincts awake. The film delivers gore, but never the genuine chills and menace that Anthony Hopkins evoked in “The Silence of the Lambs.”
