With March 21 being a national holiday, the "United" party at Womb with guest DJ James Lavelle the night before is perfectly timed, giving most clubbers enough time to sleep off the post-party blues.

British producer and record label mogul Lavelle will be DJing alongside the Dex Pistols and residents Tech Riders. Lavelle gained his reputation in the mid-1990s as head of the British label Mo' Wax, which he started when he was 19 years old. The label has released seminal albums like DJ Shadow's full-length debut "Entroducing" in 1996.

Since then, Lavelle's reputation has continued to grow as a part of the trip-hop supergroup U.N.K.L.E., a collaborative project which over the course of two albums has paired him with artists as diverse as Radiohead's Thom Yorke, Ian Brown, Mike D from the Beastie Boys and Blackalicious. The U.N.K.L.E. sound, and that of the Mo' Wax label, combines experimental hip-hop beats with ambient electronica. For his DJ set, expect to hear Lavelle spin a diverse set of breakbeats, progressive house, electro, rock and much more.

In 2001, Lavelle established himself as a DJ globally with "Fabriclive.01," a live mix album recorded at the London superclub of the same name.

Up-and-coming Japanese DJ unit Dex Pistols will be playing hard electro and mixing on three turntables and three CD decks, while Tech Riders will be spinning sounds of a similar ilk. The fourth floor on this night also has enough talent for an event in itself. Regular Friday-night Womb resident DJs Ga9 (pronounced Gaku) and Yohei Ishijima will be playing techno and DJ Dante from Kanagawa Prefecture will be spinning house.

"United" featuring James Lavelle, U.N.K.L.E. Sounds, starts at 11 p.m. on March 20 at Womb, 2-16, Maruyamacho, Shibuya-ku, Tokyo. Tickets are 4,000 yen at the door (includes 1 drink).
