Jinseki International School, the first Japanese boarding school targeting primary/elementary school children, has unveiled the school uniform for its opening in April 2020.

The school entrusted the design to Tae Ashida, famous for her collection aimed at urban professional women. Ms. Ashida’s high-quality, practical and elegant clothing is extremely popular with influential women in various fields ranging from imperial household members, political and business VIPs, and actresses. The introduction of a men’s fashion line in her latest collection drew wide public attention.

Ms. Ashida, who has designed various uniforms, has a clear vision for Jinseki:
“This is for children who will play active roles in the future, so I imagined a uniform that would serve as a symbol of freedom and diversity in school life in a wonderful international environment. For future leaders, with all my heart ….”

Ms. Tae Ashida graduated from Institut Le Rosey in Switzerland after attending elementary and middle school at Toyo Eiwa Jogakuin. She went on to graduate from the Rhode Island School of Design in the United States with a Bachelor of Arts degree.

She made her collection debut in 1991 and has participated in both Tokyo Fashion Weeks every year since then. In 2010, she was the first in the world to design an in-flight uniform for astronaut Naoko Yamazaki. In 2012, she released the collection line “TAE ASHIDA COLLECTION” and in fall of the same year, she received the Special Award at the 54th FECJ.

From May 2013, she designed and provided technical guidance on the high-quality accessory production project “MINA-TAN CHARM” with the aim of supporting reconstruction of the Tohoku region. In October 2016, to commemorate the 25th anniversary of her debut, she produced “Embellir,” a fashion documentary directed by Takumi Saito, depicting the making of a maison de couture.

In March 2019, she presented her first men’s collection at the TAE ASHIDA 2019-2020 Autumn /Winter collection. As the second daughter of Japan’s leading fashion designer, Jun Ashida, she has inherited an profound understanding of the techniques and materials appropriate for haute couture. Her elegant, modern styles are worn by prominent figures and celebrities from all over the world.
