Hideki Matsuyama finished on 12-under-par 272 Sunday for a share of 16th place after the fourth round of the AT&T Byron Nelson, won by American Aaron Wise.
Matsuyama, ranked 9th in the world, carded six birdies and a bogey for a 5-under 66 on the final day at Trinity Forest Golf Club, finishing 11 strokes behind Wise who shot a four-day 23-under 261 total to claim his first PGA tour victory.
Australia's Marc Leishman finished three strokes behind Wise for second place, while South Africa's Branden Grace and Americans J. J. Spaun and Keith Mitchell tied for third.
"I was able to correct my shots well throughout, and I had a lot of chances during the round," Matsuyama said. "Finally I was able to play my usual golf. I'm happy with everything except my tee shots."
The 26-year-old Japanese, who finished 19th at last month's Masters, began the tournament at 1-over but soared 100 places up the leaderboard after shooting an eight-birdie 63 in the second round Friday before dropping back due to an even-par third round.
He will take a week rest before playing in the May 31-June 3 Memorial Tournament at Jack Nicklaus' Muirfield Village, where he earned his first Tour win in 2014.
Satoshi Kodaira failed the make the cut after ending at 2-over after Friday's second round.
