Nasa Hataoka ended Friday on 10-under-par to remain within a stroke of the lead at the LPGA Kingsmill Championship before weather suspended play during the second round.
Hataoka carded a 5-under 66 for the second straight day on the Kingsmill Resort's River Course to tie for second with American Austin Ernst, one shot behind leader Chun In-gee of South Korea.
"My putting got better and I'm playing good golf," Hataoka said. "My tee shots were on track and led to a lot of chances. I just want to do my best to keep my stroke play and putting in good shape."
The 19-year-old sunk five birdies, including a near repeat of her first-round ace on the par-3 No. 17, to stay in contention before play was finally called after intermittent rain throughout the day.
Sixty players, including Ayako Uehara at 3-under, are scheduled to complete their second round early Saturday, with the third round to begin later that morning.
