Miyabi Onitsuka, Reira Iwabuchi and Yuka Fujimori all advanced to the final. In the event, each performs three times and the higher two scores count. Fujimori finished second, while Iwabuchi was third in the preliminary round. Onitsuka placed seventh.

12 p.m. Snowboarding, women’s parallel giant slalom: Tomoka Takeuchi, the silver medalist at the Sochi Olympics, makes her third Winter Olympics appearance. She has recovered from a torn ligament in her left knee that she suffered in 2016.

4:30 p.m. Nordic combined, team event: Four-man teams compete in large hill ski jumping and 4x5-km cross country relay. Akito Watabe, the individual event (normal hill) silver medalist), is expected to anchor Japan’s relay. Japan won back-to-back gold medals in this event at the 1992 Albertville and 1994 Lillehammer Olympics but failed to earn a medal in the previous five Olympics.
