Charles-Edouard Jeanneret (1887-1965), a pioneer of modern architecture also known as Le Corbusier, is well-known in Japan for designing the National Museum of Western Art, Tokyo, which opened in 1959. As an artist and designer, he also led the purism movement — a style of painting involving minimal and simplified shapes — with the French artist Amedee Ozenfant.
To celebrate the 60th anniversary of the museum, this exhibition covers 10 years of Le Corbusier's career, focusing on the promotion of purism between 1918 and 1925 in Paris. Exhibits include paintings, architectural diagrams and other works by Le Corbusier and his fellow artists.
