July 6-Sept. 1

Rinsaku Akamatsu (1878-1953) was born in Okayama Prefecture and studied at the Tokyo School of Fine Arts where he majored in Western-style painting. He later worked as a junior high school art teacher as well as an illustrator at the Osaka Asahi Shimbun Company.

Though Akamatsu was himself highly acclaimed as an artist at various exhibitions, he also taught other talented painters at his private school, which had a major impact on the development of Western-style painting in Osaka. Exhibits in this exhibition include Akamatsu masterpieces and related documents that were recently donated to the museum.
