A 2-year-old girl was found dead at her family’s home in Saitama Prefecture on Sunday, and her mother was found dead in an office building nearby, police said.
The husband, Yuichi Horimoto, 33, a company employee living in the city of Toda, telephoned police around 7:15 a.m. telling them that he had found his daughter Kako lying dead in bed and that his wife was missing.
About an hour later, police found the body of Horimoto’s wife, Tamaki, 33, hanging on the premises of the office building.
Police said there were marks around the child’s neck that suggested she had been strangled.
Yuichi reportedly told police that his wife and daughter had gone to bed together at around 8 p.m. Saturday.
Police are investigating the link between Tamaki’s death and Kako’s murder, they said. Tamaki apparently had problems with child-rearing, and what seemed to be a suicide note was found in her house, police officials said.
The couple also has a 4-year-old son.
