Mercedes cars get Nissan gas engines

Kyodo

Nissan Motor Co. said Sunday it will supply four-cylinder gasoline engines to Daimler AG for use in its Mercedes-Benz C-class cars starting in 2014.

The engines, to be manufactured at Nissan's factory in Tennessee, will be installed in C-class cars assembled at the German automaker's plant in Alabama, Nissan said.

The plan is part of growing moves to boost cooperation between Daimler and the Nissan-Renault SA group, it said, adding that the move is also the first outside Europe to stem from the growing ties being formed from the alliance. Renault is the parent of Nissan.

The four-cylinder engine will be also installed in Nissan's Infiniti luxury cars, it said. Annual production of the engines will reach 250,000 units at the most, it said.
