Calbee goes for a home run with Koshien-themed potato chips
The Olympics aren't the only sports competition going on just now, the extremely popular Summer Koshien high school baseball tournament is also happening. To celebrate it, snack maker Calbee has rolled out a limited-edition "Koshien Curry" flavor of potato chips. Based off the most famous concession available at the Osaka-based stadium since 1942, these chips (¥214) feature a distinct Japanese-style curry taste, but with a good amount of spice added in. Some people's first choice for a bite in summer probably won't be spicy chips. But for those who crave a little bit of oomph in their summer snack options — or want to pretend they are taking in a game at the Koshien — this one is a home run.

Mr. Biden goes to Asia
U.S. Vice President Joe Biden concluded a brief three-country tour of Asia that took him to China, Mongolia and Japan. While there is always some trepidation when Mr. Biden travels — while he is a genuine foreign policy expert, he has a tendency to make off-the-cuff remarks that get him in trouble — the trip was a success. He achieved his key objectives: Working on building a relationship with his counterpart, Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping, the man tapped to succeed President Hu Jintao next year, and reassuring China and other Asian nations, especially Japan, of the ongoing U.S. commitment to the region.
