Full tilt: Setamaru has energy to burn
Full tilt: Need a pickup? A break from the hum-drum? If so, then this ginger ball of energy is for you. He's called Setamaru, a name coined from the Tokyo Ward where he was found. Born sometime this spring, he's still new to life and he's taken it by the horns. And he wants more of it. He wants to get to know you, to own you and everything around him: cats, dogs, toys, bags — everything is there for him to experience. Setamaru can't get enough of life and he loves nothing more than to rocket around his foster home chasing toys and anyone who wants to join in the game. He does wind down, though, and then it's time to curl up with you. He loves people and needs friends — the more the merrier. Setamaru is far better than another jolt of caffeine because, in the end, he'll have you laughing as well. And that's no joke.

Kyoro is built for comfort
Built for comfort: Kyoro, an 8-year-old Chihuahua, only weighs in at 4 kg, which is less than many cats, but he can still pack a punch. Kyoro landed at ARK earlier this summer when his owner was hospitalized. The shelter was a crazy nightmare for Kyoro. The blur of activity, the racket, the lack of attention and all the unknowns were too much for him. He barked furiously, snapped at workers and was a tightly wound, desperately unhappy nervous wreck. Luckily, Kyoro was put into a foster home in Tokyo, where he was given the calm, comfortable, safe environment he needs. He mellowed immediately and now even falls asleep during his bath. Kyoro needs a real home, not a temporary one. He needs a companion who understands what it's like to be a little fellow in a big world and who can set his mind at ease.

A cat named Harrison: All aboard!
Harrison is a bit shy but he's gradually warming to people. He may never be a cuddler but he is what is known as a 'soft-pawed cat' — one that is very gentle and highly unlikely to use his claws.

Delving into Ethiopia's ancient past and present
I'm edging my way through a long tunnel in pitch darkness, feeling for the roof so I don't hit my head, waving my trusty flashlight around to scan the walls and sandy floor and check for any unwelcome wildlife. I feel like Indiana Jones but a lot less brave.
