Nineteen-year-old jockey Nanako Fujita on Saturday claimed her sixth national race and her first since Oct. 9.

In the day's fourth race, Fujita steered the fourth-pick, 2-year-old colt Silver Meteor, through the middle of the 16-horse field before gradually picking up the pace. She snatched the win at the wire to a huge cheer from fans at Nakayama Racecourse.

"I've been given a Christmas present," said Fujita, who on Wednesday was honored by the Japan Racing Association for being a hot topic beyond the sport this year.

In March, Fujita became the JRA's first rookie female jockey in 16 years.
