Kawasaki Frontale announced on Monday they have promoted Toru Oniki to manage the team next season.

The move was waiting to be rubber-stamped after Frontale said last week that Oniki, 42, would inherit the club from Yahiro Kazama, who will step down at season's end after being in charge for five years.

Oniki's contract runs for two years starting in February 2017. He has been an assistant at Kawasaki since 2009.

"I hope I can I build on the football Coach Kazama has built here," Oniki said in a statement.
