Sanfrecce Hiroshima on Monday banned defender Mihael Mikic for the last two league games of the J. League season after the Croatian crashed his car into a taxi, injuring two passengers a day earlier.

The club said the accident occurred while Mikic, 36, was driving in Fukuyama, Hiroshima Prefecture. A female passenger in the cab broke her ribs and collar bone, while a fellow male passenger suffered bruising to his head.

Mikic was unhurt, but will not be allowed to train until Friday. Hiroshima will keep him out of the last home game of the season against Avispa Fukuoka on Saturday, as well as the final league fixture away to Albirex Niigata on Nov. 3.

Sanfrecce said they issued the penalties after considering "the magnitude of the social responsibility" placed upon the club and player.
