Yuzuru Hanyu became the first figure skater to succeed in a quadruple loop and topped the Autumn Classic International after the short program on Friday, scoring 88.30 points in his first outing of the season.

The 21-year-old, who has been working on harder elements, landed the jump to get off to a good start but under-rotated and failed to land his quad salchow-triple toeloop combination.

Hanyu smiled after being informed he was the first to nail the quad loop by an International Skating Union official but wasn't satisfied with his modest score.

"I can execute the loop better and I'm just frustrated I couldn't complete my program," Hanyu said.
