Japan's Mike Havenaar scored his third goal of the season but his missed penalty forced ADO Den Haag to settle for a 1-1 draw against Heracles in the Dutch top flight on Sunday.

Havenaar cancelled out Robin Gosens' opener in the 28th minute as he banged home a left-footed volley to the far left-bottom corner inside the box, but failed to convert from the spot 10 minutes from time, when he was too clever by half and his little chip sailed over the bar instead.

"I wanted to chip (the keeper) over the middle but kicked it too hard. I should have scored," said the 194-cm forward.

His miss resulted in Den Haag dropping its first points of the season, having started with three wins out of three, but sits second on 10 points in third behind giants Feyenoord (12) and PSV Eindhoven (10).
