Japan striker Takuma Asano expressed determination to make a success of his loan move from English Premier League giant Arsenal to German second-division outfit Stuttgart as he returned home for national team duty on Sunday.

Arsenal announced Friday that it was loaning out the 21-year-old Asano to Stuttgart, with manager Arsene Wenger saying the fleet-footed forward had been unable to acquire the work permit necessary for him to play in Britain.

"I think there is a difference (in quality) between the first and second divisions but the level in the second tier is still very high," Asano told reporters at Tokyo's Haneda airport.

"(Stuttgart) is a good club and I want to get games and deliver results," said the Rio Olympic forward.

Japan kicks off its final round of Asian qualifying for the 2018 World Cup in Russia when it plays United Arab Emirates in Group B in Saitama on Thursday.

"Hopefully I can get on the pitch and score to contribute to a win," said Asano.

The former Asian champions then travel to Bangkok to play Thailand on Sept. 6.
