Utility infielder Ryota Wakiya broke up a scoreless tie in the 10th inning with his first career sayonara home run to lift the Yomiuri Giants over the Central League-leading Hiroshima Carp 1-0 on Tuesday.

Twice discarded by the Giants in his career, Wakiya returned this season after two years in the Pacific League with the Seibu Lions. The 34-year-old hit the fifth pitch from reliever Jay Jackson (4-4) to end an enthralling pitchers' duel. It was his first home run as a Giant since 2011.

"This is the greatest feeling. I was so surprised (by the homer)," Wakiya said. "Our pitchers were amazing, and it was up to us position players to do something."
