Midfielder Hajime Hosogai signed a two-year contract with VfB Stuttgart after three years with Hertha BSC, the German second-division club said Monday.

After a season on loan at Turkish first-division side Bursaspor, the 30-year-old Hosogai has chosen to reunite with former Hertha coach Jos Luhukay and play for the former Bundesliga champion until 2018.

"Stuttgart are a club with high potential. I hope to contribute and help them realize their goal," said Hosogai, who will wear the No. 7 shirt.

The former Japan international moved to Germany from former J. League champions Urawa Reds to join Bayer Leverkusen in 2011 and spent a spell on loan at Augsburg before joining Hertha in 2013. He was loaned out to Bursaspor last August.
