The East Asian Football Federation will donate $20,000 to the Kumamoto Football Association to aid recovery efforts following the recent earthquakes that have rocked Kumamoto and surrounding areas in Kyushu, Japan Football Association president Kozo Tashima said Wednesday.

Tashima, an executive board member of soccer's world governing body FIFA, said the Asian Football Confederation and FIFA also intend to offer support.

"They are really worried (about the disaster area)," Kumamoto-born Tashima told reporters in Mexico City, where he is attending FIFA duties.

The quakes, the first of which struck on April 14, have claimed 49 lives. Close to 20,000 people still remain in shelter homes.
