Japan defender Yuto Nagatomo has signed a three-year contract extension with Inter Milan lasting until June 2019, the Italian club announced Friday.

"I'm simply happy. Inter is my pride and I'm honored to be able to stay here," Nagatomo told a news conference. "I'm full of gratitude to my teammates, the club's staff and my family.

"I'll be 30 (this year) but was offered another three years. Nothing rates higher than that."

A source close to the matter on Thursday said Nagatomo, in his sixth season with Inter after joining from Cesena in February 2011, was to sign a deal worth €3.5 million ($4.0 million) per year.

Nagatomo has made 172 appearances for the Nerazzurri, scoring 11 goals.
