Texas Rangers right-hander Yu Darvish on Tuesday threw 50 pitches in the bullpen, the most since his elbow surgery in March last year as he gears up towards his scheduled mid-May comeback.

"There's no problem at all. The power was there on the whole and the speed too," said Darvish after appearing in the pen for the first time since Saturday when he threw 45 pitches.

The bullpen session was broken into two simulated innings of 25 pitches each and a break between them. Team staff members stood in the batter's box as the 29-year-old tried his sliders and also threw from the stretch.

The next step for Darvish will likely be pitching batting practice.
